CHT Architects’ The Maze Apartments has been officially shortlisted in the ‘Residential – Multiple’ category of the 2013 Victorian Architecture Awards. The Maze is competing against 12 other buildings designed by some of Australia’s most highly regarded architecture firms.
All entries will be on display at Pin-Up Project Space (15-25 Keele Street, Collingwood) from Thursday 6th until Saturday 29th June. Award winners will be announced at the Presentation Dinner on Friday 21st June.
Situated in the heart of Richmond, The Maze consists of 24 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments over five storeys.
In designing the building, the site’s surrounding context was given much consideration. Materiality allows the boutique building to be sympathetic to Richmond’s industrial history, while referencing the area’s current residential and commercial uses.
The concept behind the facade evolved from the exploration of found geometries and pattern-making. It provides a sense of complexity and sophistication to what is otherwise a cost-effective, raw and robust building, with maximum amenity.
